Dexter star Yvonne Strahovski has said that upcoming film I, Frankenstein is an entirely new take on the Frankenstein story.
Speaking to Digital Spy, the Australian actress explained how the new version starring Aaron Eckhart will differ to previous incarnations of the classic tale.
“It’s a story on how Frankenstein’s monster has survived to this day, because he is an immortal creature and he is still wandering the Earth,” Strahovski said.
“It’s very much a tale set in the modern day, it’s a modern day city and characters.
“Plus we’ve sort of introduced a whole different type of fantastical world where we have the demons obviously representing the bad guys and gargoyles representing the good in the movie, and protecting the human race.”
The actress added that a possible franchise spinning out of I, Frankenstein was “definitely a possibility”.
I, Frankenstein will be released in early 2014.
Dexter: The Final Season and Dexter: The Complete Series is available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray from Monday, November 18.
Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski is in final negotiations to join I, Frankenstein, the action monster movie starring Aaron Eckhart. Miranda Otto, best known for playing Eowyn in The Lord of the Rings movies, also is on board.
Stuart Beattie is directing the Lakeshore/Lionsgate movie, which follows Frankenstein’s monster (Eckhart) vacillating between humanity and monsterdom while being pursued by demons wanting to gain the secret of his reanimated corpse.
Strahovski will play the female lead, a scientist working on reanimating the dead and tricked into working for demons seeking to create an army of the undead. Otto is playing the queen of the gargoyles who wants to help Frankenstein. Bill Nighy is already in negotiations to play the leader of the demons while Socratis Otto (no relation to Miranda) is his right hand man.
The movie, based on a comic by Kevin Grevioux, is due to shoot this winter in Australia. Hopscotch Features is partnering with Lakeshore to produce the movie. Lionsgate will distribute.
Strahovski, repped by IFA Talent Agency and KcKeon Myones Management, is wrapping up her run on Chuck, which is in its final season. She was last seen on the big-screen with The Killer Elite with Robert DeNiro and Jason Statham. She recently wrapped the Anne Fletcher-directed comedy My Mother’s Curse, which stars Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand.
